Description

Principles of school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS). Roles and functions of the school-wide PBIS team, action planning for sustainable practices, data management systems/tools, and data analysis for planning three-level interventions and monitoring progress.

This course is an approved elective in the Master of Science in Education online degree program. 

You may enroll in this course to meet your goals for professional development, license renewal, or to complete graduate credits and transfer the credit to another university.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Describe essential elements of a proactive school-wide discipline plan.
2. Justify multiple rationales for school-wide behavior expectations and implementation of PBIS in PK-12 schools.
3. Analyze school-wide behavior expectations for major common areas in the school and individual classrooms.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of preventative and remedial strategies to teach social skills to at-risk students.
5. Develop systematic three-level school-wide behavioral interventions.
6. Interpret progress monitoring graphs and communicate ongoing measurement for school-wide behavioral interventions and supports.
7. Develop school-wide recognition plans.
8. Critically analyze building and classroom practices and viewpoints regarding PBIS.
9. Apply essential principles of PBIS, varied assessments, and interventions for the purposes to solve school-wide and classroom behavior problems.

No travel to campus is required.

The class is highly interactive with a significant discussion component.

All discussion postings, projects, and assignments will be submitted via the course discussion board and Dropbox.

Activities are conducted according to a schedule with specific due dates each week; there are no required "live" chat sessions.
